I haven’t really had a weight problem. I have remained fairly active but I find that as i get older, my body doesn’t process fats and starches as efficiently. It means I have to either eat less or find new ways to burn it off. I have done neither.
Now, I am as heavy as I have ever been and I’m not happy with huffing and wheezing as I bend over to tie my shoes. I don’t like my jeans being really tight. Plain and simple, I know I can do better. It’s time to make some changes. “If I always do what I have always done, I’ll always get what I always got.”
If this sounds familiar to you, please follow this page as I document my progress, my struggles and my setbacks. If you have your own story to tell, please let me know here.

February 13, 2012
Last weekend was the second of three bike shows that I run. The disruption in hours and schedule is no excuse for my food intake patterns. It’s all in the planning.
There was a day and a half of set up for the show and two and a half actual days of show. That’s a fair bit of disruption, given the number of times a person eats in a day! But I found that it required some advance planning. I carried fruit, protein bars, nuts and other snacking foods. Much to my surprise, the staff decided to have a pot luck during the show. There were veggies, fruit as well as soups, chilli and stew. Anyway, I wasn’t 100% in keeping with my new plan, but I did eat moderately, as I’m getting used to. The net result after this week’s weigh-in? I’m down another 4 pounds! The girls at Herbal One tell me that because my metabolic rate has been improved, my weigh loss continued!
On the Sunday morning of the show, I noticed I felt a little shakey, like you get after 3 coffees and no food. Upon examining my intake from the day before, I found that I was lacking some carbs, so I adjusted it and felt better. The thing about paying more attention to how I have felt is that I’m more aware of the smaller changes in myself. I like what i feel so far!

The whole process of going through a lifestyle change is a bumpy road with the occasional hiccup! That’s why I’m finding the support of the staff at Herbal One most helpful!
On my Monday morning weigh in and consult, I mentioned that I felt hungry on Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday, as it turns out!) We reviewed my eating ‘diary’ for the weekend and the answer became obvious. I had a very busy Saturday and, it turns out, I didn’t eat all of the food I was supposed to. (It happens in my world!) On Sunday, my body was telling me that it was running low on fuel. The burbles in my stomach were saying “feed me”. I didn’t cave to the hunger pangs, but I thought it was worthy of saying something. Glad I did!
It still isn’t ‘second nature’ to reach for the better food choices, but that’s why this is a process! It’s coming!
